Derawar Fort
Overview
The Derawar Fort was first built in the 9th century under the kingship of Hindu Rajput from Jaisalmir in India's Rajasthan state. The Nawab of Bahawalpur, Sadiq Mohammad Khan -1, captured the fort in 1737 and rebuilt it. fort was initially known as Dera Rawal, and later referred to as Dera Rawar, which with the passage of time came to Derawar, its present name. In the 18th century, the fort was taken over by Muslim Nawabs of Bahawalpur from the Shahotra tribe. It was later renovated in its current form in 1732 by the Abbasi ruler Nawab Sadiq Muhammad.

Originally constructed in the 9th century under the patronage of Hindu Rajput rulers hailing from Jaisalmer in India's Rajasthan state, the Derawar Fort holds a rich historical legacy. In 1737, during the reign of Nawab Sadiq Mohammad Khan -1 of Bahawalpur, the fort came under his control and underwent a significant reconstruction. Initially known as Dera Rawal, it gradually transformed into Dera Rawar, and over time, it became Derawar, the name it is known by today. In the 18th century, the fort transitioned into the possession of the Muslim Nawabs of Bahawalpur, taking it from the Shahotra tribe. The fort, as it stands today, was meticulously restored to its current form in 1732 under the leadership of the Abbasi ruler, Nawab Sadiq Muhammad.
